Second part of Konrad's Dirt Car Racing adventures used in Supreme Championship Wrestling fed as a follow up to the first EPW Dirt Car Racing adventures story.
Salisbury, North Carolina. Thursday 27th November. (Offline)
Fact is I didn't celebrate or care for Thanksgiving because it meant nothing to me or to my wrestling team for that matter, being that they are from Europe and no country from Europe celebrates Thanksgiving, but that didn't matter to Donny or David either who were world class Sprint Car and Midget drivers. They told me to come down to Millbridge Speedway because I was going to do a few races there before I fly to Germany for Christmas, the biggest celebration for us Europeans.
I know Donny and David have families that would celebrate the occasion, but I know that this was the only time really I could do this, considering my hectic wrestling schedule itself in other wrestling companies. Of course, I treating the SCW company as my retirement run because it was the last time I'll ever enter in the company. Not even coming back to check on my students as I'll hear about it at the wrestling school I'll attend once a week.
Still this was thanksgiving for me, better than the American traditional kind because this was a reward for me that all this time, them along with Larson have been building me a sprint and midget car, despite not asking for them to build me those cars. It was a shock what I discovered in Florida on Saturday. Anyway, I was here and so were they and they had both of the cars in the garage as I went to take a look, inspecting everything.
Donny: “What you waiting for Konrad, you know these cars are fine with us building them.”
Konrad Raab: “I wanted to take a look at them first. It's just what I do always before I drive the cars. Ask Kaulig Racing or any team and they'll tell you I check the cars first, even if you guys say they are good.”
David: “To be fair, that's a good point. Take as long as you like to check both of the cars.”
David did get it as it was always something I do, despite knowing nothing about these cars, compared to NASCAR where sometimes, I spot the problem while doing car checks before getting into the NASCAR car to the team that make fixes to them sometimes as well. After thirty minutes of checking both cars, I was ready to go as I brought my lid and overalls, mostly just basic Kaulig Racing blue overalls all of us Kaulig Racing drivers had.
So I went to change in the trailer they had for me to change into my overalls, my lid, racing shoes and gloves on which didn't take me long as I was excited and I couldn't wait for this experience. Of course I know they've spoken to Carson beforehand to know how to adjust the car to accommodate my height because I was the same height as him.
I came out, dressed in my overalls and my racing gear before I got into the Midget car first which was a bit of a tight squeeze, but they made perfect adjustments before time. I was focusing on driving at that point, thought to give them like fifty laps each so I get to spend time with these cars, but with the midget car, I was like goodness, I can see why a lot of NASCAR drivers do these races and this was the midget car.
The speed of this midget car was incredible and I honestly felt a little uncomfortable at first, but once I got in the car, it was amazing. After fifty laps of midget car, I took it back to the garage and then I jumped into the Sprint Car which was also a tight squeeze, nearly hitting my head like I did with the midget car, but I managed to fit just fine, but my god, the risks these NASCAR drivers take with these Sprint Cars was higher than the midget cars.
I see why more now that Alex had a serious injury and even Larson had a few serious ones as well because these cars can tip over very easily because of the weight of these cars were extremely light, but unbelievably, it had so much power and speed. So I got to understand more about this car now and maybe I did more than fifty laps with the Sprint Car because I enjoyed it that much. I enjoyed the Midget Car too and I totally would be down to do Millbridge Speedway race and I would be down to do Chilli Bowl race too one day.
It was an great and massive experience for sure and I'm glad that I could do it and I thank partly Carson for making that dream come true for me because of his ability to drive the car being the same height as me and Larson for telling me that story. I loved this kind of racing and even the track, is fantastic. I had been here before as a guest. The drivers were dying to know what I thought about these cars, even with Donny stating this to me.
Donny: “Sprint Cars like this don't usually race here, but this was an experience for you to try this Sprint Car out.”
David: “You see that though? Konrad done more laps in the Sprint Car than the midget car. Man, you must've loved that?”
I took the lid off and the gloves as I was done for the day as these guys had to get home to their families and I had two drivers that I usually have for going to and from NASCAR races with driving my motorhome to and from tracks taking my Sprint and Midget cars back to my North Carolina home.
Konrad Raab: “I did a lot. I see why NASCAR drivers and Larson himself go crazy for the Sprint Car Racing. Damn, I think the big Sprint Car races can happen here, although figuring the size of the track being smaller than in Volusia, I guess it wouldn't work here.”
Donny: “But here is where many NASCAR drivers got their start, even Larson and Busch's kids are racing on this track as beginners to racing.”
Konrad Raab: “I did not know that. Interesting. I really enjoyed both cars and maybe I enjoyed the big Sprint Car more, but I also wanted to know why there was so much buzz in the NASCAR paddock about these cars particularly and I found out why.”
David: “Why?”
Konrad Raab: “Because of the speed, the massive risk they take to race these cars. These cars are more dangerous than the wrestling I'll do against Enigma on Saturday, although Enigma is a dangerous opponent himself.”
They knew I do professional wrestling because obviously with the Ashes and flames painted all over my cars and the whole number I have attached to my cars all connects with the amount of titles I've won in my professional wrestling career. It was unfortunate I couldn't race these cars more and I know how they wanted me to ask another question.
Donny: “Will we expect you to do Chilli Bowl Nationals race?”
Chilli Bowl Nationals race was where the top midget drivers take part every year from all across the world, even people from United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand took part in the race. Although I had watched a few races before and I was impressed by the racing that goes on in Chilli Bowl Nationals
Konrad Raab: “No because I looked at the schedule and it clashes with the preview for the Daytona twenty four hour race. Maybe in two thousand and twenty seven when I have a lot more experience with this midget car and I done more races that I will consider. But this is the thing about racing, I get to experience a lot more than just wrestling moves.”
David: “Is that why you're retiring from wrestling full time?”
Konrad Raab: “Yeah because I've done everything there is. I will still do wrestling, obviously, in three other companies part-time, but I'm retiring from wrestling in SCW entirely because their PPVs are on a Sunday, and obviously, NASCAR Cup Series races are on Sundays. I've done all I can with SCW now and everyone in NASCAR and even Kaulig Racing want me to do Cup Series full time.”
Donny: “I don't understand why you weren't doing NASCAR Cup Series racing full time this year.”
Konrad Raab: “Because I refused to move up when I hadn't got a Road Course win behind my back. That was the only reason and the SCW schedule as well that mucked things up. I had a lot of problems with them this year on that alone.”
It was the one reason why I needed to retire from SCW and I was offered a Legends contract, but when I saw on the legends contract that I had to do Sunday PPV's, I rejected because the only time I could wrestle was on Thursday shows. I declined politely when CHBK and Mr D offered it to me and it was a shame that both said no to me wrestling on Thursday Breakdown shows only because I did want to continue to wrestle there without being on PPV's, but it wasn't possible.
Konrad Raab: “This track is amazing and I've never seen anything like it. I really loved and enjoyed racing here today. I will consider doing the December races before I go to Germany for reasons I'll say over the phone.”
Donny: “Yeah I can understand that for sure. Anyway, we better get going.”
David: “You know with thanksgiving and I know you don't celebrate it because it's not a German celebration.”
Konrad Raab: “Nope, we're a country that's much bigger with Christmas. Europe is bigger for Christmas. Yeah I can understand and you can expect me to race against you guys next year sometime. Thanks a lot for building me these cars and I will race a lot with them during the year, especially in Larson's Sprint Racing Series.”
They went off as obviously they would as I changed back to my regular clothes with the drivers that were taking my Sprint and Midget cars back to the home of North Carolina I hired mostly because my racing headquarters was there and I had to go there on occasions to discuss race meetings, to do some autograph signings because believe me when all of us drivers get a lot of fans sending stuff to the shop for me to sign. Then I focused on a fight I've been wanting for ages, a match against The Enigma.
